Connecting Braintree to Givecloud

  1. In Givecloud, go to Settings > Payment Gateway.

  2. Select the Setup next to Braintree.

  3. Add the Merchant ID, API Public Key, API Private Key, and enable Allow ACH if you accept direct debit.

  4. Once complete, select Update Information and be sure to enable the gateway in the top right corner.

  5. Go back to Settings > Payment Gateways > Smart Routing and set Braintree as your Default Card Gateway and Default Bank Gateway.


What is a Merchant ID?

The Merchant ID is an identifier unique to your account and will differ between your production vs sandbox control panel. You will want your production merchant id to connect to Givecloud.

To find your merchant ID,

  1. Log into the production control panel of your Braintree account.

  2. Select the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

  3. Then select Business from the drop-down menu. The merchant ID is located at the top of the business page.

  4. Copy the merchant ID and paste it to the corresponding merchant ID field in the Braintree settings in Givecloud.


What is an API Public Key?

When setting up Braintree, you will need to include your Public and Private API Key.

  1. Log into the production control panel of your Braintree account.

  2. Select the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

  3. Then select API from the drop-down menu. Scroll to the API Keys section. If you are new to Braintree will probably need to click Generate New API Key.

  4. Copy the API Public Key and paste it to the corresponding API Public Key field in the Braintree settings in Givecloud.


What is an API Private Key?

When setting up Braintree, you will need to include your Public and Private API Key.

  1. Log into the production control panel of your Braintree account.

  2. Select the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

  3. Then select API from the drop-down menu. Scroll to the API Keys section. Select View to see the Private Key section.

  4. After you select View, the private key will be visible in the Private Key column.

  5. Copy the API Private Key and paste it to the corresponding API Private Key field in Braintree settings in Givecloud.

  6. Save.


Direct Debit and How ACH works with Braintree

Direct debit is available with Braintree for US organizations and supporters only.

ACH allows supporters to complete contributions using their direct debit information.
